Meet Corine Smith, a distinguished member of the film and television industry and one of the esteemed panellists on the upcoming Joburg Film Festival panel discussion. Corine's vast experience across multiple areas of post-production makes her the ideal representative for SWIFT and the perfect candidate to offer her insight on the topic of 'Women in Crew'.
As a Digital Imaging Technician (DIT), Corine understands the challenges that female DITs, in particular, face in the industry. She hopes to use her platform on the panel to highlight the lack of training available to aspiring female technicians and inspire change.
Beyond her passion for the technicalities of film production, Corine is an advocate for a safer and more inclusive working environment for all members of the industry which leans into our SWFT narrative to empower the industry through the Safety Officer Programme headed by Zanele Mthembu, particularly created for sexual harassment. Corine is eager to participate in discussions on how we can create a more empowering and inclusive space for everyone.
The distinguished technical filmmaker is enthusiastic to recognise the significance of the Jo'burg film festival as an opportunity to celebrate and uplift emerging African creatives in the industry. She looks forward to engaging with other trailblazers and joining forces to push the boundaries of filmmaking.
With her extensive knowledge and authentic communication style, Corine is more than qualified to discuss the complexities of the topic on the panel, remaining engaging, attentive, and sharply focused on the subject matter.
