As a filmmaker, I'm constantly in awe of the transformative power of storytelling. Through film, we're able to explore new worlds and meet characters that inspire empathy and understanding. Whether we're reminded of ourselves or encounter characters we've never quite understood before, film has a unique ability to make us feel less alone and more connected to the world around us.
To keep my creativity alive, I believe in living life to the fullest and embracing all that the world has to offer - the good, the bad, and the ugly. Strong emotions are often the impetus for my creative work, and I relish the chance to dig deeper and gain a greater understanding of the human experience.
Being a woman in the film and television industry certainly has its challenges, but I've found that my consistent dedication to my craft has been the key to my success. Despite the inevitable setbacks and obstacles, I've remained steadfast in my commitment to pursuing a sustainable career in filmmaking.
One of the most unforgettable experiences in my career has been directing my first feature film. It was an incredible feeling to be surrounded by a passionate and talented team of individuals, all working towards the common goal of telling a beautiful story.
As a member of the Swiftie community, I'm inspired by the supportive community of women who are always there to lift each other up. The access to knowledge, experience, and advice is invaluable, and it's wonderful to be part of such a vibrant and positive group.
I draw inspiration from a diverse group of impactful women, including the likes of Joan Didion, Nora Ephron, Greta Gerwig, Issa Rae, and countless others. Their creativity and innovative storytelling continue to influence my work, and I'm grateful for the trailblazing examples they set.
I'm beyond thrilled to announce that next year, I'll be directing my first pilot alongside a team of incredibly talented women. This is a major milestone in my career, and I'm excited to see what we'll create together.
Additionally, I'm honored to share that my feature film, which I've been working on diligently, will be ready for release by the end of 2024 (fingers crossed!). "Extravagant Ways To Say Goodbye" is a tragicomedy that's near and dear to my heart, and I can't wait for audiences around the globe to experience its unique blend of humor and heartache.
This film has been a labor of love for years. From its selection as one of the 11 projects in Africa to pitch at the prestigious Pavillon Afriques at the Marché du Film in Cannes in May, to its development through Durban Film Mart, Sundance, and the Junior Entertainment Slate in Berlin, it has truly been a journey. But now, as we prepare to share this film with the world, I feel an incredible sense of pride and excitement for what's to come.
