#FemaleFilmmakerFriday features Producer Nerusha Sadapal.

My passion for filmmaking takes root in the opportunities it presents. Every new person I meet and location I explore sparks my creativity and helps me bring stories to life. Being able to assist storytellers in their pursuit of giving life to their tales gives me great joy and is what inspires me to keep going.

My creativity thrives on the happiness of my clients and the success of my shoots. Living in Durban, which is now gaining recognition as a film destination, has given me the chance to work on a variety of projects. From popular international reality franchises to short films, documentaries, and music videos, I have found my passion in serving my clients and delivering beyond their expectations. Attending film festivals, reading scripts, and being on sets helps me stay driven to keep my creativity alive.

I am proud to see the industry evolve and embrace women. Starting as a location scout, I soon found myself in a more dominant role as a unit manager, a position that was previously known as a 'man's job.' Today, I lead a team of women who hold positions that were once reserved for men. While we still have work to do, we have made great strides, thanks to those women who paved the way before us.

My most unforgettable experience in the industry was during the peak of the pandemic in 2020. The Durban 48 Hour Film Project managed to produce 50 short films in one weekend, and I had the privilege to be the city producer. It was a satisfying experience to see filmmakers rise to the challenge and create history in KZN by producing the greatest number of short films in one weekend.

As a Swiftie, I appreciate being in the loop with industry happenings and available opportunities for filmmakers. Most importantly, being part of the Swiftie community means being surrounded by people I can trust and count on for advice, recommendations, and help.

As the founder of Visual Network South Africa, I'm always looking for new properties, vehicles, and service providers to add to our database. Listing properties and services with us can be done by emailing pictures and detailed descriptions to filmvnsa@icloud.com.
