My most notable achievement is some of the incredible actors, creatives and talent I not only got to work with, but am lucky enough to now call my friends, many of which are extended family.” Uga’s first love for film was inspired by the 1982 film, ET. Together with having conversations with the Cashier at Mr Video, this part of her life shaped her inner voice in storytelling.

Uga is the Founder and President of the multi award winning boutique production company, Towerkop Creations which specialises in female driven heroine stories since 2010. The production company’s latest release is a documentary film titled Beyond the Light Barrier Movie which is currently screening at the Beyond the Light Barrier MovieEncounters South African International Documentary Festival 25th South African International Documentary Festival. Narrated by South Africa’s world renowned intellectual artist, Johan Kani, the film showcases the story about a legendary meteorologist, Elizabeth Klarer, who spent her days on earth trying to convince the world that her alien lover Akon, from an advanced human race on Meton, existed, and held the only solutions to all our problems here on earth. The seats are filling up every day with an excited audience!

Currently, the multi-award winning film director leads her career with 11 awards and 14 nominations! “I solely believe that it’s an achievement every time a film gets finished and finds a home with an audience who resonates with it and gets it,” says Uga. She continues, “My most notable achievement is some of the incredible actors, creatives and talent I not only got to work with, but am lucky enough to now call my friends, many of which are extended family.” Uga’s first love for film was inspired by the 1982 film, ET. My most noteworthy event with SWIFT has to be our upcoming workshop at the Encounters Documentary International Film Festival, which will be led by my female strong HOD. Interesting fact: crafting the film not only took me 13 years to complete but has also SOLD OUT at the Encounter’s Documentary International Film Festival.

  • Beyond the Light Barrier workshop offers a comprehensive approach to the craft and technical aspect of creating the highly anticipated documentary: ⦁ Where: Cape Town – Bertha Movie House, Isivivana Centre, Khayelitsha ⦁ When: 28 June (Wednesday) ⦁ Workshop: 2:00 pm ⦁ RSVP here: ⦁ https://forms.gle/HrBY3L4PAfaxFQzM7
Who is invited? Open to the SWIFT community and public! “My Cat Mew and My dog Mr T are two of many muses. My muse changes every day because each day gives me different inspiration. This looks like: Love. A beautiful poem. Walks. Yoga. Fudge. My Italian heritage. My country is South Africa. Travel. Adventure. Mermaids. The solidarity of the Writers’ strike. Yellow Jackets. The Last of Us. All muses to me…” adds Uga. Some Awards and nominations: Angeliena film (2021) , Home film (2020), best music video (2019), Alison film (2018) + more. When you love what you do, you haven’t worked a day in your life, right? Exactly!
