Female filmmaker Friday features Carla Deyzel, a videographer, producer & aspiring musicperformer

SWIFT has shown me unity and has amplified my voice as a female Filmmaker. One of their core programs I have benefitted from immensely are the Advocacy and Skills & Mentorship programs. SWIFT has made me aware of what my rights are as a female filmmaker on set. I have also grasped so much relevant knowledge
since being a part of SWIFT, there are endless networking opportunities!

My ambition towards film and television is captivated by the creative processes that go into creating a whole production. The path I’ve taken happens to be the
best one, yet!

Working on an award winning and nominated show, Hectic 99, has to be one of my most notable works. ‘Reclaiming Intersex’ was an award nominated film I worked on as an editor. Being a part of the making of the documentary, which aims to share the experiences of the marginalized voices within society is something I’m very passionate about. The documentary film won 2nd place as a Winner Audience Award at the Trans Screen Transgender Film Festival Amsterdam.

When working in production, some of the additional hats I wear are: Floor manager, Videographer, Camera Operator.

I am new to the SWIFT family, and it has been more of a sisterhood for me, my highlight of being a SWIFT member is being a part of a community that creates opportunities
for and by women. SWIFT has shown me unity and has amplified my voice as a female Filmmaker. One of their core programs I have benefitted from immensely are the Advocacy and Skills & Mentorship programs. SWIFT has made me aware of what my rights are as a female filmmaker on set. I’d like to fully immerse myself in creating and working on local narratives and content. I believe local film & television will continue to grow in the opportunities
created and that we are responsible to create. Learning never ceases and because of that the future I am heading towards is exciting.

Interesting facts:
(1) What has inspired me the most is working with the likes of Shelley Berry. I admire her bravery, storytelling, and independence. She has had a powerful influence on my Film & Television journey. (2) Operating a jib, (3) I plan on getting back into performing arts.
