Join us for a captivating evening on the 24th of April 2024 as we delve into the world of renowned writer and director, Meg Rickards. A talented storyteller with a passion for conveying authentic human experiences through film, Meg’s creative vision has garnered both critical acclaim and popular success.

In early 2021, Meg directed “Atlantis,” a television feature that claimed the title of the most streamed film on eTV’s streaming platform, eVOD. Following this success, her romantic comedy “Kaalgat Karel,” which she directed, co-wrote, and produced with Paul Egan, made waves in South African cinemas, and gained international recognition at esteemed film festivals such as the Phoenix International Genre Film Festival and the Boden International Film Festival.

Meg’s impressive body of work also includes her debut fiction feature, “Tess,” a film that earned accolades such as the Best South African Film Award at the Durban International Film Festival. Through her groundbreaking documentary “1994: A Bloody Miracle,” co-directed with Bert Haitsma, Meg skilfully recounted the countdown to South Africa’s first democratic elections, winning the prestigious Audience Award at the Durban International Film Festival and the Writers’ Guild award for Best Documentary Script.

With a PHD in Film Studies and a rich background as an educator at several esteemed institutions, including the University of Cape Town and the University of the Western Cape, Meg Rickards brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her storytelling craft. Her work has not only entertained audiences but also sparked important conversations around democracy, reconciliation, and social change.
