#FemaleFilmmakerFriday features multi award winning Producer, Actress and Screenwriter Lulu Hela.

For me, filmmaking is the ultimate form of storytelling - and my love for telling stories is what ignites my passion. I'm endlessly fascinated by the power of visual communication - the ability to evoke emotions, challenge perspectives, and ultimately make a positive impact on society. Through my films, I strive to create meaningful art that speaks to people on a deep, human level, and inspires them to think, feel, and act in new ways. And the fact that my art will outlive me - potentially becoming a part of culture for generations to come - is just the icing on the cake.

To keep my creativity flowing, I constantly challenge myself to explore new ideas, perspectives, and approaches. Whether it's through writing, reading, watching films, or collaborating with other creatives, I make a point of seeking out diverse content that can push my boundaries and inspire new insights. I also try to stay plugged into the latest trends and techniques in the industry - attending workshops and film festivals and learning from other talented filmmakers. And of course, taking time to rest and recharge is crucial - often leading to bursts of renewed creativity and fresh ideas.

As a woman in film, I've always been passionate about using my art to reflect and celebrate diverse perspectives and experiences. Through my work behind the scenes - as a producer, writer, and creator - I've tried to create safe, inclusive spaces for other female filmmakers and actors to thrive. And I'm proud to have contributed to important cultural conversations around representation and social issues - striving to challenge stereotypes and inspire change through my art.

There have been so many incredible moments throughout my career, but if I had to choose one, it would have to be the night my show, Lavish Season 1, won the South African Film & Television Awards (SAFTAS) awards for Best Drama and Best Wardrobe. It was a truly magical moment - a culmination of all the hard work, creativity, and passion that went into making the show. But really, my most cherished memories have been of the amazing women who have supported and mentored me along the way - always lifting me up and helping me grow.

Being a Swiftie has been an incredible experience - a chance to connect with like-minded women who are passionate about creativity, community, and making a difference. Through Swift, I've had access to a wealth of resources and opportunities to grow as a filmmaker - and more importantly, I've been inspired time and time again by the amazing women who are part of this community. Seeing the talent, creativity, and determination that these women bring to the industry every day is truly uplifting - and it motivates me to keep pursuing my own dreams and goals.

As someone who's worked in front of and behind the camera, I'm excited to be branching out into a new venture - offering experiential training to aspiring actors, producers, and writers. I believe that everyone deserves access to the tools and resources they need to succeed in this industry - and I'm eager to share my knowledge and experience with a new generation of passionate, creative young people. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new project!
